Washington Wild Things


The Washington Wild Things, a professional baseball team in the Frontier League, are seeking an on-field master of ceremonies for the 2018 baseball season. The season runs from May through mid-September. The internship is required to be for school credit, and successful applicants would start towards the beginning of May, with the start date to be determined. The on-field emcee will be in charge of being the in-game host for all Wild Things’ home games, as well as being an active member of the street team. An intern for the position is preferred, but if the right candidate comes along, the team may consider hiring. We encourage both to apply.

Responsibilities:

On-Field Master of Ceremonies – Perform the duties of a master of ceremonies as the lead voice for in-game promotions as well as potentially being the talent for pre and post-game videos for all 48 home games on the Wild Things’ schedule. The emcee will be talking on the microphone in front of the game crowd, provide high-energy enthusiasm while motivating and encouraging people to dance, coordinating and announcing the in-game promotions as well as other tasks assigned
Street Team (Game Days) – Engage fans during games through the on-field schedule that involves t-shirt tosses, promotions and general fan engagement practices like dances (i.e. YMCA, Cupid Shuffle). That part also involves the handling and execution of any pre-game activities prior to first pitch

Assist with the planning and execution of team and community events
Participate as a team member through meetings and offer support to other team members to maximize customer service, retention efforts and sales performance
Interact with other Wild Things’ departments to provide a cooperative, client-oriented focus for all fan engagement and ticket sales related opportunities
Identify sales opportunities through networking and outreach within the local market
Provide a high level of customer services to fans, groups and sponsors
Work with adults and children to ensure a fun and safe game-day experience
Ensure proper implementation of all Wild Things game-day elements
Other responsibilities as requested

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a field of communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
  • Getting school credit as an internship preferred, but pay may be open for the right candidate
  • Passion for sports, fan engagement
  • A strong work ethic coupled with the ability to work with others
  • Energy to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment
  • Must be available to work from the beginning of the May to at least near the end of the season (Early Sep.)
  • Self-starter, pro-active and highly motivated
  • Have great communications and interpersonal skills, along with a positive and energetic personality
  • Learn quickly and work well under pressure
  • Have the ability to work with children and adults and be comfortable doing so
  • Be creative and fun-loving
  • Able to assume other responsibilities as required
